Institute of Palliative Medicine (IPM)
Terminal patients who no longer require treatment at a hospital need a peaceful environment to spend their days. Their families may not have the means or training to provide them with specialized care.
IPM is the pioneering institute dedicated to Palliative Medicine in Sri Lanka. Managed under the Cancer Care Association Sri Lanka and led by Founder/Director Prof. Samadhi Rajapaksa, the Institute operates a fully functioning 21-bed hospice, training center, and community outreach hub in Matara, Southern Province.
Our mission encompasses clinical hospice care, home visits, community outreach, academic research, education, and advocacy, addressing physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs free of charge.

An integrated 8-stage care pathway uniting doctors, nurses, counsellors, and volunteers to address all physical & emotional dimensions.

Empowering families with hands-on caregiving training, symptom recognition guidance, emotional solace, and bereavement care.

Peer-reviewed studies analyzing 265 admissions to advocate for earlier palliative referrals and shape national healthcare policy.

You can donate essential items directly to IPM Matara. Below are the care packs currently required for hospice patients:
Dry Ration Pack
Rice 2kg, dhal 500g, grains 500g, sugar 500g, tea 200g, noodles 1 pck, soya meat 2 packs, spices 50g each & salt.
Sanitary Care Pack
Soap, shampoo, eau de cologne, body lotions, talc, or any other essential sanitary items.
Bedding & Linen
Clothing material, pillow cases, bed sheets, and soft towels for patient beds.
Bank Account Information
Monetary donations directly fund medical supplies, patient meals, and hospice care free of charge.
